My dad was FBI and we were not allowed to go to school on the base. That changed the next year. I attended Antilles Middle school and went to school in old barracks. I was 8, and female. There was very little tourism then and zero bullying. We lived in San Juan. God bless your memories and Leif. Brought back so many good things about Puerto Rico. We had no english-speaking TV stations then. We were there two years. He loved SCA. I think I may have a few photos Leif took of that party. I always love seeing photos of him I never saw before, and would treasure any you could give me. Leif fought depression a couple of periods in his life, and both had a lot to do with a broken heart, health problems, and debt. As guys do, we drifted apart after I moved away, so I just learned of this sadness. I considered Alex a true friend, and wish I had stayed in better touch. I had no clue he was sad, and maybe at the time he was not. I was one of the first people to ride in his Dodge. I remember the little knob on the wheel for rapid steering adjustment and I remember how much he loved playing Playstation games till 3 am and how we threw a party in his basement one night and went around passing out flyers we printed up to people at fast food places to get people to come, then we stocked up with liquor from the base, hung some lights, and played music until early.
I have some pictures from 2003 that either have Leif in them or were taken by him, if there is someone who would like copies.
I know it is late, but my sympathies for your loss.
I wish I had looked him up sooner.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10460099132860907687noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1157714885947624270.post-19618697716687777242014-09-18T14:05:59.703-04:002014-09-18T14:05:59.703-04:00Hello, Missy Lee, I am always so glad when anyone ...Hello, Missy Lee, I am always so glad when anyone finds Leif's blog. Thank you for your comments and condolences. Yes, we did live by the "back gate" to the Sagamihara Housing Area. If you were facing the gate, our set of quarters was the last one on the left, and we lived second from right. I recently found a good photo of it that my mother took. The woodsy area was a great place to play. Leif went to John O, Arnn Elementary School, and had an especially wonderful kindergarten teacher, though he had a good first grade teacher (and was taller than she was), and a second grade teacher he loved. exconsultohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10731304699816298581noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1157714885947624270.post-91087931614404492062014-09-14T23:48:47.059-04:002014-09-14T23:48:47.059-04:00I am so sorry for your loss.

This is my second time in Japan and in the past I lived on Sagamihara Housing Area (SHA). By your description, I think our former house in SHA was closed to where you lived. I was on the cul de sac before the road ended and behind our house had more trees than anywhere on the SHA. We used to pile leaves into huge a huge hill and my kids and dogs jumped in it. My kids go to the elementary school on SHA too. According to the school website,
"The school first opened in 1950 as Sagamihara American Elementary School; the name was changed to John O. Arnn Elementary School during school year 1982-1983. A new school at SHA was officially dedicated on August 28, 2003."
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15604294464552328026noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1157714885947624270.post-52206205414880068322014-08-23T14:26:01.828-04:002014-08-23T14:26:01.828-04:00Anyone who used to be part of the original ZAON te...Anyone who used to be part of the original ZAON team, if you feel so inclined IM me.Khanihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14191101857598532784noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1157714885947624270.post-58380027755093165352014-06-20T01:55:25.342-04:002014-06-20T01:55:25.342-04:00words fall short, dying is easy, living is hard.words fall short, dying is easy, living is hard.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1157714885947624270.post-66374952703699393962014-04-10T01:51:46.338-04:002014-04-10T01:51:46.338-04:00Leif will always hold a special place in my heart....Leif will always hold a special place in my heart.
